US PRESIDENT TO VISIT SITTING BULL’S HOMELAND – TO HONOR SIOUX HOLY MAN, WARRIOR and CHIEF.

President Obama will visit Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on

Friday, June 13. See IndianCountryToday.com (6-5-2014) for

the White House press release. The President says that he is

honoring Sitting Bull and his homeland in North Dakota. Obama

also intends to enhance economic development among First Nations.

In 2008, the US Congress passed a resolution apologizing on behalf

of the “people of the US to all Native peoples for the many instances

of violence, maltreatment and neglect inflicted upon Native Americans

by US citizens”. This resolution was signed by the President on

December 19, 2009. SJR 14 was sponsored by US Senator

Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) and US Congressman Dan Brown

(D-Oklahoma). This Congressional expression urged American

presidents to “acknowledge wrongs and bring healing to this land”.

Native American speakers were called the “code talkers” –

giving the Allied Command a secure, communication system.

In 2008, Native American code talkers were honored by the

US government with BRONZE MEDALS for their service

in World War II. The US Congress passed PL 110 – 420, in

that year. Twenty six coins were created by the US MINT. You
